El Olvido
The Wraith
The Villain of the Night
First seen: Wave 2 of any night — she gives you one wave of grace, then she comes for you.
✦ STATS
Dive Speed9/10
16 u/s to your 9 — dodge sideways, not away
Stalk Speed3/10
3.6 u/s while circling about 9 units out
Cold Bite7/10
each touch snuffs 0.34 of your flame — about three dives and the night swallows you
Toughness4/10
1.1 s of sustained arc contact banishes her at first — her resolve deepens as the night wears on, up to ~2.2 s by the Sunrise Rush
Persistence10/10
re-forms 14–22 s later — sooner as her hunger grows. Always.
✦ ABILITIES
The Circling
Stalks at 3.6 u/s, orbiting about 9 units out, picking her moment every 5.5–9.5 seconds — the gaps shrink as the night deepens.
The Rear-Up
Flares and shivers for 0.85 seconds before a dive — most dives. That flare is your dodge window. Her later faces do not always grant it.
The Snuff Dive
A 16 u/s dive lasting up to 1.4 seconds, touch radius 1.2. One touch takes 0.34 of your veladora.
She Always Comes Back
El Olvido is banished, never captured. She re-forms in 14–22 seconds, sooner late in the night. Banishing pays 75 points at first — up to ~200 once her hunger has grown. Driving her off gets harder, and worth more.
The Scatter
Once the night deepens, small cold motes peel off El Olvido and drift for your warm light. One that reaches an ofrenda veils it — no warmth, no shelter there while the cold holds. The arc shoos them with a touch, and they never take the last lit light: the last light always holds.
The Hunger
As the night wears on toward sunrise, El Olvido grows in stages: harder to banish, quicker to recover, bolder between dives. At each step she stops and visibly FEEDS — a violet pulse, another wisp in her court, a colder frame on your veladora — and the night whispers it: THE COLD DEEPENS. THE DARK GROWS HUNGRY. NOTHING STAYS LIT. And at the rush: THE DARK COMES FOR EVERY FLAME. And the face that hunts you at dawn is not the face you met at midnight — it turns at wave four, and turns again at wave six.
The Unseen Step
From her second face on, some hunts skip the rear-up entirely: she fades — body, cold, and all — and the quiet is her footstep. She re-forms close at your back, flares in, and dives. She never steps into warm light, and a player who finds it while she is away is left alone. When the world goes silent, turn — or get to the light.
The Grasp
From her last face on, she sometimes does not dive at all. She halts, and something cold reaches out for you — caught, you are hauled toward her, and her touch at the end of it is the same touch it always was. Three things break it: the arc severs it, warm light snaps it the moment you reach it, and her grip tires if you fight it long enough. It can be outrun — commit early, run at an angle.
✦ FROM THE FIELD GUIDE
The show called her El Olvido. The town kept the name. Nobody's found a better one — a hooded violet nothing with two pale eyes, circling out past your candlelight, patient as weather.
She watches your veladora the way a cat watches a door. She circles, she rears, she dives — and a flame she reaches goes out. Warm light keeps her off. She has never once been in a hurry.
You can drive her off. You cannot be rid of her. The arc banishes her into the dark for a while, and the dark, eventually, hands her back.
✦ HOW TO SURVIVE IT
▸Stand in warm marigold light — an ofrenda's glow reaches 4.2 units. El Olvido will not dive on a lit player, and your flame rekindles at 0.16 per second.
▸During the 0.85-second rear-up, strafe sideways. She dives faster than you run, not faster than you sidestep.
▸Turn the arc on her: 1.1 seconds of sustained contact banishes her for a while. She gives you one full wave of grace at the start of the night — after that, she comes for you.
▸If her cold goes suddenly, completely quiet — she is not gone. Spin, or step to the light: she flares before the dive, and that flare is still your window.
▸Caught by the Grasp, do not panic away from your beam: turning the arc on her cuts you free at once, and warm light breaks her grip the instant you reach it.
